News Web (Text and Photo by Luo Liuping from Art Design Department) On the evening of October 28th, the new version of Folk Song and Dance Drama Bai Lian passionately premiered in Liuzhou Culture and Art Center Grand Theater. This Folk Song and Dance Drama takes Liuzhou folk song as the soul, and uses an old story, song and dance originating from the soul to reconquer the captious audiences with everyone applauds.

This is a fantastic and touching story. Legend has it that once upon a time, there was a mountain in Guangxi, and there was an inn under the mountain. The inn owner married a girl named Bai Lian with three pots of wine. However, from the beginning of the marriage, the owner would not allow Bai Lian to sing. It was said that the “ghost” songs always came out from the mountain at midnight and singing would attract the “ghost”.

The “ghost” that sang on the mountain turned out to be a young man named Liu Gen. He stayed alone on the mountain for more than a decade, in order to fulfill his grandfather's great trust. He had to notify the villagers to let them go up the mountain to avoid flood. With lightning flashing and thunder rumbling, the flood came. Liu Gen and Bai Lian tried their best to make all villagers go up the mountain. But as a result, they were misunderstood by villagers. Liu Gen was burned to death. Bai Lian was extremely grieved. She also rushed into the sea of fire, and became twin white lotus on one stalk together with Liu Gen in raging flames.

Bai Lian found the singing in the remote mountain, and the folk song met bosom friend for the first time. The hero and heroine, Bai Lian and Liu Gen met, acquainted, knew and fell in love with each other because of the folk song. Their folk song moved the world and they walked towards Nirvana singing the folk song...

The wonderful performance makes audiences remember the two leading roles: Chen Ying and Lin Huan, two outstanding graduates from Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College.

Chen Ying: Thanks for the Cultivation of Alma Mater to Let Me Step on the Dream Stage

Chen Ying, music performance class of 2006, graduated from the Music Department of Liuzhou Vocational and Technical College in 2009. Now she is the Deputy Director of Artistic Creation Center of Liuzhou Art Theatre; the eighth and ninth CPPCC member of the Central District of Liuzhou City, and the twelfth CPPCC member of Liuzhou City.

In 2014 and 2015, she respectively and successfully held “Bright Sunshine” solo concert in Liuzhou Arts Center; since 2010 until now, she took part in “Singing to the Party” classic red song concert in Liuzhou City for celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China; the Dragon City of its flourishing age praises “Double Support”--Celebration evening party for congratulating Liuzhou City honored as the “National Double Support Model City” for seven consecutive terms; walk towards the deep blue--Cities and Warships Army-Mass cooperation, namely artistic performance for celebrating the naming of Liuzhou Warship; hundreds of performances including the large variety show of opening ceremony of the 7th Peasant Games in Guangxi etc. Among them, she acted in Ba Gui Multi-section Song and the dance epic Dong and performed at the National Grand Theater; went to four Central Asian states for sodality on behalf of Guangxi, wining “Uzbekistan Merit Actor Award”. And she was invited to participate in the performances at Hong Kong and South Korea, deeply loved by the audience.

Chen Ying says that people like presumable and magic dreams, and the stage is the place that can bear people's artistic dreams and share dreams. The performance of the stage play has a higher demanding for the actor's quality. They shall not only be good at singing and dancing, but also be good at performing, which is of great difficulty. Under the guidance and encouragement of the director, leaders and teachers, Chen Ying used all her strength to practice singing, dancing and analyzing roles, getting the hang of every actor’s line, every action and every expression in eyes and challenging her own previous experience of art performance. Thanks the time of study in the school which enables me to step on my beloved stage.

Lin Huan: No Matter How Much Hard Work is Worthwhile to Make the Performance Perfect

Lin Huan, music performance class of 2008, graduated from the Music Department of Liuzhou Vocational and Technical College in 2011. And he has become the solo actor in Art Theater of Liuzhou City in 2011.

He used to be the singer of the large variety show of opening ceremony of the 7th Peasant Games, singer of the large variety show of opening ceremony of the Guangxi Finance Games and singer of the large variety show of the 60th anniversary of Sanjiang County; in 2012, he went to South Korea to attend the communicating party of China and South Korea as a singer; in 2015, he held a second solo concert at Arts Center of Liuzhou City; in 2017, he acted in Ba Gui Multi-section Song, the work of Director Zhang Jigang and the national tour of dance epic Dong, and played as the leading actor in the music drama, Bai Lian directed by Director Zhang Jigang; played the second leading actor in micro film the Days in Gubu; acted as the leading actor in Rearview Mirror, a micro film advertising video of Liuzhou Traffic Police Group; played as the leading actor in Boy Don't Cry, an anti-drug advertising video of Luzhai County; played as the leading actor in Sanitation Worker, an advertising video of Liuzhou City; in 2017, he recorded an advertising song, Direction for Liuzhou Traffic Police Group; recorded an advertising song, World Beautiful for You for Liuzhou etc.

Lin Huan says that in order to make the action scene more shocking, the crew of Bai Lian hired professional dance instructor to guide the actions. For the purpose of making no mistake and making the actions elegant and beautiful, he spent lots of time practicing and suffered many small or big injuries. However, all of those are worthwhile to present the most perfect role for audiences. Once after a performance, Lin Huan was excited to tell the teacher of the music performance team of Art & Design School that his fluent and free performance today owns much to the strict requirements of directors in the school in those years. It is because of strict teachers that he has become what he is today. Twenty years ago, the famous artist Zhang Jigang created and rehearsed the folk music drama Bai Lian for Liuzhou, which became the foundation work making culture and art of Liuzhou walk towards the whole country. After twenty years, Liuzhou has rearranged the new version of folk song and dance drama Bai Lian, and reviewed the forge ahead of cultural development of Liuzhou for 20 years. Through the promotion of program innovation and skills, the artists of Liuzhou have been pushing the new version folk song and dance drama Bai Lian to make a transcendental breakthrough in the shortest time, which elevates the appeal of national art of Liuzhou to a higher level.
