The School of Environmental and Food Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the “School”), whose predecessor is the Department of Environmental and Food Engineering established in 2011, is one of the nine secondary schools under LVTC. Under the care, support and guidance of the leaders of LVTC and superior administrative department in charge of education, the School has gained a substantial development after years of construction. Currently, the School offers five majors, i.e. Industrial Analysis Technology, Environmental Monitoring and Control Technology, Environmental Engineering Technology, Food Testing Technology and Green Food Production and Inspection, and has built a number of advanced inspection and testing training laboratories among the colleges and universities in Guangxi. The School now has 24 teachers, including 2 doctors and 15 masters, among which 50% and 64% respectively hold senior professional title and assume double positions. By 2018, the School had kept an initial employment rate of more than 95% and a job-major matching rate of more than 90% for six consecutive years; in addition, all (100%) students had acquired at the time of graduation professional qualification certificates corresponding to their majors.

Early in 2009, the School set up the first demonstration training base for environmental chemistry-related majors among the higher vocational colleges in Guangxi - the Training Base for Environmental and Industrial Analysis and Testing. This base is designed with training laboratories for general chemistry, instrument analysis, analytical instrument simulation, microbiology, industrial analysis and testing, and environmental monitoring.

In 2012, the School set up another demonstration training base for higher vocational education in Guangxi - the Training Base for Food Testing. This base is designed with training laboratories for gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, atomic fluorescence and rapid testing.

In 2013, the School initiated the construction of LVTC Practical Training Center for Agricultural Products Quality Safety Testing (a demonstration training base in Guangxi) under the special financial support of a total investment of approximately RMB 9 million from Liuzhou Municipal Government. In May 2016, this center was successfully built after nearly three years’ construction. On the basis of this center, Liuzhou Vocational and Technical College Inspection and Testing Co., Ltd. was founded and registered with Liuzhou Municipal Administration for Industry and Commerce. Meanwhile, the School established the LVTC CMA (China Metrology Accreditation) Accredited Laboratory in collaboration with Guangxi Longdu Environmental Monitoring Co., Ltd. under a cooperation agreement. A third-party testing organization is allowed to use the CMA stamp on testing reports only after having obtained the certificate of metrology accreditation. And the testing reports affixed with the CMA stamp have legal effect and may be used for product quality evaluation and results and judicial appraisal. In October 2016, the LVTC CMA Accredited Laboratory obtained the certificate of qualification as an inspection and testing organization issued by the Quality Supervision Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and is allowed to carry out, as a third-party inspection and testing organization, inspection and testing for eight categories and over 360 items that cover food testing, agricultural products testing, environmental (air and exhaust, soil, substrate, solid waste, coal, noise and vibration) monitoring, and public health and epidemic prevention (food and health care products, natural mineral water for drinking and tableware) testing. The obtaining of this certificate marks that the School’s Practical Training Center for Agricultural Products Quality Safety Testing ranks top in testing capability and level among the colleges and universities in Guangxi, and has achieved a high level in professional research, development and technical service. This certificate has also substantially enhanced the School’s capability in practical training as well as ability and level of serving the society.

In the operation of the said company, the School combines the inspection and testing work with major-related teaching to provide students of all majors with real work posts, tasks, working environment and strict job requirements, enabling them to gain concrete experience, have a solid mastery of skills and get strong competitiveness in employment.

In 2016, the School, Liuzhou Municipal Agricultural Products Quality Safety Testing Center and Liuzhou Municipal Animal Products Quality Safety Testing Center, jointly applied, as co-builders, to Liuzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau for the founding of the Liuzhou Municipal Engineering Technology Research Center for Agricultural Products Rapid Testing; in addition, the School and Adana Food Tech (Liuzhou) Co., Ltd. cooperated and jointly applied to Liuzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau for the founding of Liuzhou Municipal Engineering Technology Research Center for Sucrose Ester Separation and Purification. The founding of these two research centers marks an improvement in the School’s scientific research capability.

The School vigorously cooperates with enterprises and governments and has set up off-campus training bases in governments and enterprises such as Dongguan Xuji Food Co., Ltd., Guangxi Liuzhou Huirong Eco-Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Guangxi Jieda Investment and Development Co., Ltd., Guangxi Longdu Environmental Monitoring Co., Ltd., Liuzhou Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Liuzhou Municipal Quality and Technology Supervision Bureau, offering solid and advanced conditions for the study, practical training and internship of the students.
