News from News Network (written by Yang Jingyi from College of Automotive Engineering; photographed by Wu Liping from College of Automotive Engineering) From March 26 to 27, 2018, the Automotive Marketing Contest of Guangxi Vocational Students Skills Contest 2018 was held in Guangxi Vocational and Technical College of Communications. The contest was sponsored by Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and undertaken by Guangxi Vocational and Technical College of Communications (hereinafter referred to as “GVTCC”), containing such three modules as automotive sales comprehensive skills, automotive marketing & planning skills and basic automotive marketing skills. 20 higher vocational college teams participated in this two-day contest. An Ni from Grade 2016 Automotive Marketing and Service Specialty and Huang Fucai from Grade 2016 Automotive Application and Maintenance Technology Specialty participated in the contest on behalf of LVTC. Without any fear of their competitors, they exhibited excellent performance and won the first prize in the autonomous region. This is a historical breakthrough for LVTC and gained the honor for the school.

In the contest, the two contestants had a strong mentality and showed their essentials of basic training. On the first day of the contest, the score of the two contestants ranked fourth, they were not discouraged. In the automotive comprehensive marketing skills contest on the second day, they started the contest with calm smile, applied a variety of marketing techniques to deal with difficult customers acted by experts from enterprises, showing the audiences an excellent automotive marketing reception process and winning the unanimously praise from judges. Eventually, they beat the strong opponents and broke back with total score surpassing others. With group efforts, they won the first prize of the autonomous region.

Leaders of College of Automotive Engineering attached great importance to the Guangxi Vocational Students Skills Contest 2018 and actively organized the training for the contest. From contestant selection, training through contest preparation, great support has been provided for pre-contest mobilization to cheer up contestants. Since September 2017, the college has started the contest preparation scheme and organized the team to actively prepare for the match. The marketing skills of the contestants were improved through the daily training of the automotive club, the simulation contest of the advanced class, the scene simulation with teachers acting as customers, the qualification contest inside the college, etc. During the preparation, the leaders repeatedly led the contestants to other colleges for competition, and invited insiders including the sales manager of FAW Volkswagen 4S shop and the director of Marketing Department of Hualiu Car Sales Co., Ltd as the experts for guidance and analyzing the contest from a professional perspective so that the contestants could master the skills and use them in real sales and marketing planning.

With aim of “contests to promote teaching and learning”, the skills contest not only tested the achievements of teaching reform in automotive marketing and service specialty, but also fully demonstrated the professional and communication ability of students of automotive marketing specialty as well as the training achievements of professional talents. Next, the college will summarize in a timely manner with a view to apply the experience obtained in the contest into the specialty teaching reform in future.
