From News Center (Reported by Yin Min from CYL Committee of LVTC, Photos by Qin Luying from CYL Committee of LVTC and Huang Junbo, Trainee of LVTC’s Young Marxist Class) On January 5, according to the notice issued by Guangxi Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, Li Haiping, a trainee of Young Marxist Class, Director of Household Appliances Maintenance Department (Student Society) and student enrolled in Academic Year 2019 in School of Electronic Information Engineering, was awarded the honorary title of Excellent Individual for National College Students Summer Social Practice on Bringing Culture/Science and Technology/Hygienic Health to the Countryside in the review stage of college students’ social practice activities on bringing culture/science and technology/hygienic health to the countryside in 2020. Only 400 students in China and 13 students in Guangxi won this title. Among the 13 students in Guangxi, only Li Haiping was a junior college student. It was also the first time that Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College (LVTC) won the national outstanding individual title in the review stage of college students’ social practice activities on bringing culture/science and technology/hygienic health to the countryside. In addition, the CYL Committee of LVTC was awarded the honorary title of Excellent Unit for Guangxi’s College Students Summer Social Practice on Bringing Culture/Science and Technology/Hygienic Health to the Countryside, and the “Young Marxist Program Trainee Volunteer Service Team” of LVTC was granted the honorary title of Excellent Social Practice Team for Guangxi’s College Students Summer Social Practice on Bringing Culture/Science and Technology/Hygienic Health to the Countryside.

The year 2020 is a decisive year to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and fight against poverty. While observing the relevant policies on epidemic prevention and control, the CYL Committee of LVTC organized summer social practice activities on “the youth’s efforts to exert themselves into poverty alleviation and rural revitalization with the help of LVTC” and called on the majority of young students in our college to independently conduct relevant social practice activities provided that their health and life and property safety could be ensured. These activities mainly covered two topics: returning to work as poverty relief assistants and investigating the “golden ideas” of poverty alleviation. It was LVTC’ attempt to advance students who returned to work as poverty relief assistants to participate in social practice activities individually while the CYL Committee of LVTC was unable to organize large-scale team practice activities during the epidemic. Both practice activities required trainees and backbone students of “Young Marxist Program” at all levels to set an example and actively participate. 75 trainees of LVTC's Young Marxist classes were required to participate in “Golden Ideas” research activities.

To ensure students could be successfully served as poverty relief assistants, the CYL Committee of LVTC prepared a letter of introduction for students in advance to cope with the difficulties in contacting villages and towns, and met the needs of places of practice in advance, and established a key team consisting of poverty relief assistants in targeted poor areas that received assistance from LVTC, thus to organize relevant students to assist locals in a targeted manner. In addition, the CYL Committee of LVTC also visited the students who served as poverty relief assistants in Jupan Village, Dudong Town, Sanjiang County, while going to the front line of the battle against poverty, to understand students’ working and living conditions, help them solve practical difficulties, encourage students, and express LVTC’s gratitude toward the local village committee for guiding and supporting students to carry out social practice activities.

The CYL Committee of LVTC made lots of commitments to be ready to implement research and practice activities. For example, a guideline to compile research reports was developed to help students better complete “Golden Ideas” research reports. The CYL Committee of LVTC strengthened students’ safety education on practice activities, focused on educating them to avoid the epidemic, drowning, traffic, electric shock and accidental injury accidents, and enhanced students’ ability to foresee safety risks and prevent accidents. The CYL Committee of LVTC explicitly required participating students to report their location and safety conditions to parents and instructors in time during the investigation.

According to statistics, a total of 103 students actively participated in practice activities to serve as poverty relief assistants in social practice activities on bringing culture/science and technology/hygienic health to the countryside this summer, and they were engaged in many tasks such as sorting of poverty alleviation materials, household survey, policy publicity, cleaning, facilitating the hometown to get rid of poverty and contributing to the rural revitalization. More than 70 students participated in the research activities, and nearly 70 various research reports were received, truly reflecting what the youth in a new era really saw, heard, thought and felt in the practice activities on poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.

While conducting the above two activities, the CYL Committee of LVTC also actively participated in online activities such as “My Practice Story after Returning to Hometown” and “Camera View of Bringing Culture/Science and Technology/Hygienic Health to the Countryside”, collected and saved pictures, videos, practice stories, experiences, gains and other valuable materials of students’ field investigation after they returned to their hometown, and displayed the activities through new media platforms at all levels in a timely manner.

The CYL Committee of LVTC took the next step to organize summary and awarding activities after awards were received from the higher authorities, in an effort to further improve and develop the working mechanism through summarizing work experience, and mobilize and encourage more students to participate in future social practice activities through granting awards and publicizing reports.

The social practice activities of college students on bringing culture/science and technology/hygienic health to the countryside set up a way for students to reinforce their ideological and political education, care about their family and country, devote themselves to poverty alleviation and help rural revitalization. The year 2020 was a truly remarkable year. While the COVID-19 pandemic has not completely faded, the CYL Committee of LVTC fully implemented major policies and plans made by the higher authorities to innovatively carry out social practice activities in summer in the light of actual conditions of our college. These activities were widely praised by local villages and towns and our students, and were affirmed and commended by the higher authorities. Standing at a new starting point, the CYL Committee of LVTC would continue to do a good job in practical education in the future, help LVTC to build a high-quality higher vocational school, and pay a tribute to CPC’s centenary with more outstanding achievements.
