From News Center (Text by Li Huilan，picture  by Huang Zhiwei，School of General Education ) The 2021 National College Student Mathematical Modeling Contest came to an end at 20:00 on September 12th.After three days and four nights’tough competition,  15 teams (45 students) from LVTC successfully completed the task.

The National College Students Mathematical Modeling Contest was held from 18:00 on September 9th to 20:00 on September 12th. The venues of LVTC were located in classroom 201, 301, 407, 502, 506 and 507 of Haina Building. Each team chose to answer one of the two questions from “Online Optimization of Continuous Casting Cutting” and Identification of Chinese Medicinal Materials”. The team members had a clear division of labor, and tackled key problems through co-ordination, promoted the sense of innovation, exerted the spirit of teamwork, and made full use of mathematical methods and computer technology to complete the competition successfully .

During the competition, with the care and support of leaders at all levels and relevant departments of LVTC, the participating team members played steadily in the competition. The Academic Affairs Office and the Information Technology Service Center provided a good competition environment and technical support , ensuring the normal run of the classrooms for the competition . . School of General Education  organized a mathematics modeling competition instructors group, and conducted pre-match guidance and intensive training on mathematical methods, computer technology, document retrieval, and essay writing for the contestants. The leaders of LVTC visited and encouraged the contestants. All  the people worked hard in the competition to show their excellence in the competition.

In order to promote the reform of the Higher Mathematics teaching system, contents and methods, and effectively improve the students’ mathematical modeling level , and strive to make the mathematical modeling competition a characteristic brand in LVTC’s extra-curricular scientific and technological practice activities, the School of General Education took multiple measures at the same time, an excellent team of instructors had been formed. By holding series of special lectures on mathematical modeling, school-level competitions, and summer special training, the theoretical guidance of mathematical modeling, simulation exercises and “authentic combat” exercises for students, which effectively improved the mathematical modeling ability of the students, the teaching reform of mathematical modeling has stimulated the enthusiasm of the students to learn mathematics, to improve the comprehensive ability of students to establish mathematical models and to use computer technology to solve practical problems, and to cultivate a good spirit of creativity and cooperation. A solid foundation has also laid  for students of LVTC to achieve excellent results in district and national competitions in recent years.
