"Celebrate Chinese New Year in Traditional Practice" — International Education College during the Spring Festival

From News Center (Text by Huang Jianxia, International Education College, photos by Guo Xinyuan, Publicity Department of the Party Committee and Zhang Jinyezi, Office of International Exchange) On January 30, 2022, International Education College invited leaders from the Liuzhou Foreign Affairs Office of Guangxi, Liuzhou Public Security Bureau Entry-Exit Management Office, Guantang Police Station and Household Registration Department of Liudong District Branch, as well as Wei Lin, our vice president and Chinese students, to attend cultural exchange activity of Spring Festival. On such a lovely day, we gathered here, to bring these international students who might feel strongly homesick, a warm ambience of Chinese tradition.

Wei Lin and leaders from Liuzhou Foreign Affairs Office of Guangxi and Liuzhou Public Security Bureau visited the international students at the dormitory with some festive gifts, and with them altogether, pasted the spring festival couplets and "Fu" character upside down for a bright blessing in the New Year to come. They also shared with students several traditional customs of the festival and beautiful meanings implied by couplets and encouraged them to experience more about Spring Festive.

At noon, international students, teachers and staffs make dumplings in a delighted mood. Students were engaged with kneading dough, rolling out wrappers, then made dumplings in every shape of chubby, claimed with their icon. Then all of them sit around eating their homemade dumplings and chatting over rich healthy dishes, upon the arrival of the New Year. In addition, Pakistani students Chenglong, Jimmy and Afghan students Yang Muyan made delicious Pakistani milk tea and special delicacies and fried chicken, which arouse general admiration.

There were people of different nationalities, skin colours, and languages gathered to celebrate the new year. How merry were the campus in silence with the hum of conversation and the snatches of laughter. The students showed their appreciation to the people from the school, Liuzhou Foreign Affairs Office of Guangxi, Liuzhou Public Security Bureau and other departments for their concerns, which made them indeed feel the incredible warmth of Chinese New Year.
