Good News: Wu Junsong Wins the 1st Place in the Non-English-major Group of the Spoken English Competition of the 2022 Guangxi Vocational Students Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group)

From News Center (Text/photos by Li Caixia, General Education College) On April 12,  the Spoken English Competition of the 2022 Guangxi Vocational Students Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group) came to an end in Guangxi International Business Vocational College. Wu Junsong, a student of LVTC, following the instruction of the foreign language teaching team of General Education College, won first place in the competition for the non-English major group in terms of the total score and was qualified to represent Guangxi in the National Vocational College Skills Competition. This is the best result in the history of LVTC in spoken English competitions.

The Spoken English Competition of the National Vocational College Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group) started in 2004, formerly the National Practical English Speaking Competition for Higher Vocational Colleges, and was included in the National Vocational College Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group) in 2011. It is the only foreign language competition in the National Vocational College Skills Competition and is the highest-level competition in the English competition of higher vocational colleges in China. The Spoken English Competition of the 2022 Guangxi Vocational Students Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group) is a provincial competition of the Spoken English Competition of the National Vocational College Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group). The Spoken English Competition of the 2022 Guangxi Vocational Students Skills Competition (Higher Vocational Group) is divided into four parts: "Chinese Story", "Situational Communication", "Workplace Description" and "Workplace Debate". The competition aims to encourage the participants better tell Chinese stories in English and spread excellent Chinese traditional culture, and at the same time fully exercise and assess their ability to apply knowledge comprehensively, so as to select and send more competitive contestants presenting Guangxi to the national competition.

After receiving the notice of the competition, the General Education College attached great importance to it and organized the foreign language teaching team to prepare for the competition. A series of meticulous arrangements were made from the preliminary competition in the college, the training of semi-finalists to the selection and training of finalists in the college, etc. Under the leadership of Gan Lihong, the head of the foreign language teaching team, preparations were well underway. The instructor, Li Caixia, was responsible for the training of the participants, starting from the analysis and understanding of the competition rules and questions, and repeatedly practicing and rehearsing, so that the students' mastery and application of the essentials and skills of spoken English could mark a qualitative leap. Wu Junsong won first place in the non-English major group, demonstrating the spirit of our students — motivated, united and forging ahead — as well as the collective intelligence of the foreign language teaching team and the achievements of the educational reform in LVTC.
