Experiencing the Charm of Chinese Traditional Culture: LVTC's International Students Participated in the 2023 Chinese Culture Experience Activity for International Students in Liuzhou

(Text by Huang Jianxia, Office of International Exchange; Photo by Huang Jianxia, Office of International Exchange) On November 17, 2023, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Liuzhou Municipal Committee launched the 2023 Chinese Culture Experience Activity for International Students in Liuzhou at the Liuzhou Mass Art Center. Six representatives of international students from LVTC were invited to participate in the activity.

During the activity, international students were dressed in Han Chinese clothing and immersed in the strong cultural atmosphere. The Liuzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center captured the attention of international students, who earnestly learned about the delicacies of ethnic groups such as Miao, Yao, and Dong in Liuzhou. They experienced ethnic costumes with AR technology, participated in a Dong chess challenge on-site, learned to make bird flutes as a hands-on experience with Dong ethnic musical instruments, witnessed the craftsmanship of Song Dynasty tea-making, tasted traditional Chinese medicinal cuisine, and took part in ancient intangible cultural heritage games such as pitch-pot. They had a close encounter with the novelty and excitement brought by Chinese traditional culture. Ya Yue from Laos said, "Although tea-making may make my hands a bit tired, the process is very interesting. I have a unique feeling when it is combined with medicinal cuisine."

The rich historical and cultural heritage of Liuzhou, along with its distinctive intangible cultural heritage programs and traditional craftsmanship exhibitions, won the praise of international students. This colorful Chinese culture experience activity as well as the historical background, inheritance process, and artistic appreciation of traditional culture enabled international students to truly experience the profound heritage of Chinese traditional culture and the charm of Chinese civilization and tradition. At the same time, it opened a new window for inter-civilization exchanges and mutual learning.
